Drawing is the essential language and foundation for any kind of visual expression. My own drawings can be
roughly divided into two themes:
Nude studies that explore the physical and spirit of the female form. These are 10-minute sketches using my
own hand-ground watercolors on paper, with bamboo pen and brush. They form the basis of my lifelong drawing
practice and constantly expand my figurative vocabulary. These studies (of which I have hundreds) are essential
to the second category of work, an ongoing series begun twenty years ago entitled:
Notes from the Underground. This series is at the core of my visual research into the human mystery. My
primary inspiration is Goya’s etching series, “Los Caprichios.” The meaning of these dream-like images surface
slowly, sometimes days after I have completed them.
