NOTES FROM THE UNDERGROUND
These drawings are part of an ongoing series I call “Notes from the Underground,” both as an homage to Dostoyevsky and to describe their origins in the realms of the unconscious. They are my link to the unknown treasures brought back from the night, images that arrive without pre-meditation. I view them as a 21st-century series inspired by Goya’s Los Capricios. These drawings are at the core of my visual research into the human mystery. The meaning of these dream-like images surface slowly, sometimes days after I have completed them and, often, they are disturbing messages from the deep. I mix a number of pigments together in a watercolor medium and draw with bamboo pen and brush on Arches rough 300 gram watercolor paper.
